The
NSW government is planning to build a second nuclear reactor in Suburban Sydney
to replace the Lucas Heights nuclear research reactor. The reactor is not used
to generate nuclear power, but is a research reactor used to split atoms for
scientific and medical research purposes. However, there are viable alternatives,
which could mean that we do not need a new nuclear reactor. What do you think?

MYTH:
You are not effected by a new nuclear plans.
FACT:
Up to 60 million of tax payers money has already been spent on Sydney's nuclear
reactor in Lucas Heights and plans for a more powerful reactor, estimate another
$500 million.
MYTH:
Nuclear and radioactive materials do not pose a threat to human health.
FACT:
There
are 14 schools with five kilometers of the planned reactor.
MYTH:
There
is no alternative way to produce radioactive materials.
FACT:
Medical
radioisotopes can be made cleanly and cheaply without using nuclear reactors.
